Vehicle Acquisition
Underwriting a car before anyone has driven it.
The working framework behind $5.4M of used-vehicle inventory: how a bid gets set when every input is incomplete and the clock is running.

The problem
At a wholesale auction a car is a set of partial signals. A condition report written by someone else. A history file that may or may not be complete. A market that moved last week. A run list that gives you a couple of minutes per unit.
All of it has to collapse into one number before the bidding ends, and that number has to survive transportation, reconditioning, and the weeks the car will sit on a lot before it sells.
How the decision gets made
Start from retail, not from the bid. Establish what the car realistically sells for in the specific regional market it will be listed in, then work backwards through the costs that are committed the moment the bid is won.
Price the uncertainty separately. Condition risk, history risk, and market risk are not the same thing and should not be absorbed into one fudge factor. Each has a different distribution and a different worst case.
Weight time. A unit that turns in three weeks at a thinner margin usually beats one that carries for ninety days at a wider one. Inventory age is a cost even when nothing goes wrong.
Hold the line at the number. The discipline is not in finding good cars, it is in walking away from the ones that stop making sense two increments above the target.
Result
$5.4M in used-vehicle inventory purchased year to date, 192 vehicles at an average of about $28,200, across wholesale auction and dealer channels and against established pricing, inventory, and profitability objectives.
The same framework shapes how Autora thinks about inventory: what to buy, how to price it, and how to present it honestly online.
