Autora / Flagship

Building a simpler way to buy a car.

Autora is a California-licensed automotive dealership and technology platform. I founded it in March 2025 and work across strategy, product, vehicle operations, and the software underneath.

The problem

01

Buying a car is one of the largest purchases most people make, and it is still conducted mostly in person, mostly on paper, across several hours.

The individual steps are not the hard part. What makes the process slow is that they are stitched together by a desk: a person re-entering the same information, printing the same forms, and holding the real numbers back until the customer is sitting down. The result is a transaction that feels adversarial by construction, even when nobody involved intends it to be.

Why automotive retail

02

Because the operational half is where this gets difficult, and I came to it from that side. I started on a dealership sales floor and I buy used-vehicle inventory at wholesale, so the constraints are not theoretical to me.

Autora is licensed as a California dealership. That means it sits inside the same rules and the same economics as any other dealer, which is deliberate. The product has to work within the real regulatory and financial structure of the industry rather than alongside it.

03 / Product philosophy

Four positions the product is built on.

01

Every step should finish online

Choosing a vehicle, arranging financing, proving identity and income, signing, and paying are all things people do online every day in other contexts. There is no structural reason a car has to be the exception.

02

The vehicle page is the product

Most of the decision happens on one page. It has to carry condition, history, price, and financing honestly enough that the next step is obvious, rather than saving the real numbers for a conversation later.

03

Say the number

Pricing that changes once a customer is in a chair is the single fastest way to lose them. The figure shown online should be the figure that holds.

04

Compliance is a design constraint

A licensed dealer operates inside real rules on disclosure, contracting, and verification. Treating those as part of the interface, rather than as paperwork bolted on at the end, is what makes the online path actually complete.

05 / My role

Founder, and the person closest to the details.

A company this size does not have clean handoffs. The useful version of the job is being able to move between the pricing spreadsheet, the codebase, and the customer-facing page without losing the thread.

Technology

06

A modern web platform with the data systems behind it: inventory and pricing models, a scalable landing page architecture for search, and internal tooling that keeps operations running. I write a substantial share of it, which is mostly a decision about speed. The distance between noticing a problem in the market and changing the product is short.

What comes next

07

The work continues in the parts of the transaction that still fall back to a person, and in the inventory and pricing systems that decide what is worth listing in the first place. Those two ends of the business improve each other: better acquisition makes the storefront easier to trust, and a storefront people trust makes the acquisition math work.
