Rasul Shair

Automotive retail, rebuilt as software. I founded a licensed dealership, and I buy the inventory that fills lots like it.

Autora is a California-licensed automotive dealership and technology platform. I work across the product, the software, and the vehicle operations underneath it.

Flagship

March 2025 to present

Building a simpler way to buy a car.

Autora is a California-licensed automotive dealership and technology platform. I founded it in March 2025 and work across strategy, product, and the vehicle operations underneath: what gets bought, how it is priced, and how the whole transaction runs online.

The platform covers vehicle discovery and search, financing and prequalification, identity and income verification, payments, digital contracting, and transaction processing, with the data-driven inventory and pricing systems behind them.

My role covers

  • Company strategy
  • Product
  • Full-stack engineering
  • Vehicle operations
  • Pricing and margin analysis
  • Digital retail

The transaction, end to end

  1. Discover

Search and land on a vehicle

  2. Finance

    Financing and prequalification

  3. Verify

    Identity and income verification

  4. Pay

    Payments and deposits

  5. Sign

    Digital contracting

  6. Close

    Transaction processing

How I think

Where automotive intuition meets data.

Buying at wholesale is a decision made on incomplete information under a clock. Condition, history, comps, reconditioning, transport, and turn all point in slightly different directions, and they have to resolve into a single number before the lane moves on.

Inputs

  • 01Condition report
  • 02Vehicle history
  • 03Wholesale comps
  • 04Retail comps
  • 05Reconditioning
  • 06Transport and fees
  • 07Turn and demand

Decision

Maximum bid

One number, set before the lane opens and held once it does.

Experience

Where the work has happened.

Ordered by what it explains rather than by date. Autora and vehicle acquisition come first because that is where most of the day goes.

Four areas, one job.

The useful part is not any single column. It is that a pricing decision, a data model, and the interface a customer sees are all the same problem viewed from different sides.

The short version

I started on a dealership floor, and I have not really left the problem since.

Selling cars at Fairfield Subaru showed me how the transaction actually works for the person buying: how long it takes, how much of it is paperwork, and how little of it has moved online.

Founding Autora and buying inventory at wholesale are two halves of the same interest. One is the customer side of the transaction, the other is the economics that make it possible. Economics and computer science at UC Davis is where the analytical half comes from.

If it touches cars, data, or the money in between, I want to hear about it.
